 2017 Preview 


       West Morgan completed the 2016 season with a 7-4 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 3A region eight, the Rebels earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. West Morgan's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Sylvania by a score of 42-6.

       The Rebels improved in 2016 with their first winning season since 2010. The Rebels won as many games as in any season since 2008. It marked the first time since the 2008 season that the Rebels qualified for the playoffs. The Rebels hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Ritter saw improvement as they won seven games following a 0-10 record in 2015.

       Since 2010, the West Morgan football program has struggled with a record of 18-53.

       Over the past 25 seasons, West Morgan has managed to compile a record of 157-127. Their 55.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 3A and 130th in the AHSAA.

       The Rebels are led by head coach John Ritter who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 7-14 over the past two seasons at West Morgan. Under his direction the Rebels have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Ritter.

       Coach Ritter's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 23-21 (52.3%). Over the course of his career, Coach Ritter's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times .

       The West Morgan Rebels will play in Class 3A region eight during the 2017 season.

       The Rebels enter the 2017 season riding a 5 game regular season winning streak.

       The Rebels will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region eight this season.

      Gabe Peluso returns for his Senior season after completing 55 of 122 passes for 804 yards and 8 touchdowns. He also rushed for 562 yards and another 6 scores.

      Senior Maurice Gray returns after catching 22 passes for 434 yards and 3 touchdowns. The defense returns Senior Sammy Thorne who registered 112 tackles last season.

      Junior Tyson Teague returns after rushing for 1,630 yards on 235 carries and scoring 19 touchdowns. Senior Chance McClung returns to the offense after rushing for 355 yards on 43 carries and 4 TDs.

       The Rebels open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent St. John Paul II on Saturday, August 26 at Rebels Stadium. Last year the St. John Paul II Falcons finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in eighth place in Class 5A region eight. The Falcons closed out the regular season with a loss to Clements by a score of 28-18.

       West Morgan and St. John Paul II have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Rebels have a 2-2-0 record against the Falcons. They last met in 2016 with West Morgan winning by a score of 50-8.

       West Morgan returns 3A All-State Senior offensive lineman Austin Guyse. He was named to the second team last season. The Rebels also return Junior running back Tyson Teague. He was named to the second team.
